The 5 Milliemes coin was redesigned in 1951. The new coin was made of copper-nickel and had a diameter of 20 millimeters. The new coin also featured a new design on the reverse, which depicted a wreath of laurel leaves surrounding the denomination of the coin and the year of issue.

The 5 Milliemes coin was discontinued in 1964. It was replaced by the 5 Milliemes Piastre coin.
