He believed that a nation as great as the United States should have a currency reflecting that greatness and to rectify the situation, he arranged for Augustus Saint-Gaudens - considered one of the greatest sculptors of the time - to redesign America's coinage. This was one of only two coin designs Saint-Gaudens completed before his death. Two varieties exist, the No Motto of 1907-1908 and the Motto (In God We Trust) variety of 1908-1933.Liberty Head Gold Eagle The Liberty Head Eagle is also known as a Coronet Head Eagle. Though used throughout the nation, it is interesting to note that large quantities of this coin ended up being held by a number of foreign banks, as those foreign nations did not want to conduct trade with the United States using paper money. It is believed that most surviving uncirculated examples of this coin came from those foreign bank hoards. In 1866 the motto In God We Trust was added to the reverse above the eagle, though both Motto and No Motto varieties were produced in that same year. Complete with packaging presented in a luxurious slab wood box. An ideal gift! Order yours today!
