Collection: “Discover the Iconic and Sought-After Morgan Dollar: A Treasure of American History”

The Morgan Dollar is one of the most iconic and sought-after coins in American history. Minted from 1878 to 1904, and once again in 1921, this silver dollar was designed by George T. Morgan, an English-born engraver who worked for the U.S. Mint. The coin’s obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty, symbolizing freedom, while the reverse displays a majestic eagle with outstretched wings, holding arrows and an olive branch, signifying strength and peace.

The Morgan Dollar was born out of the rich silver deposits found in the Comstock Lode of Nevada, making it a significant piece of America’s post-Civil War economic expansion. It is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, with each coin containing nearly an ounce of silver. The large, heavy coin became a staple of trade and commerce, especially in the western United States, where silver mining was at its peak.

Today, Morgan Dollars are cherished by collectors for their historical value, intricate design, and the story they tell about America’s Gilded Age.
