Historical Description: “The Canadian 1 cent coin was first introduced in 1858 and was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint for circulation. The coin was composed of bronze and featured a portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse and a vine leaf wreath on the reverse. In 1937, the design was changed to feature two maple leaves on the same twig, which has remained unchanged with one exception: in 1967, a rock dove designed by renowned Canadian artist Alex Colville appeared on the reverse to celebrate Canada’s Centennial. The coins in this collection were minted between 1963 and 1998 and feature a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and a maple twig with the face value and the inscription "CANADA" on the reverse.”
